Message Yea I precook (outgas) all my parts.

But awhile back I did a mitsubishi 4g63 cover. This engine must have went 50,000 miles without an oil change or something. There was like a quarter inch of hard black funk on the bottom of the valve cover. I sanblasted it, but couldn't get underneath the baffle. So I did prebake it, but all the crap that was left underneath the baffle smoked me out of the shop. On top of that, the funk melted and started on fire in my oven. After that I just started grinding of the baffles, sandblasting everything, then welding on new ones.

Probably more work than what its worth. I just don't want to have to replace someone motor because of sand left underneath the baffle. But I also don't want to get smoked out and have my shop start on fire.
